London, where they speak ENGLISH!

The weekend of the 14th we had our trip to London. I was super pumped to go because I knew they spoke English there! It was just Natalie and I that went, but the boys (ryan, brian, and mark) were in London too. They just had different plans then us. They spent all of Saturday at a Manchester United game. But our flights were around the same time, so we were all in the airport together. We actually spent Thursday night in the airport because both of our flights left really early Friday morning. That was definitely an experience. We didn’t really sleep; we just played games all night. Needless to say, neither Natalie nor I remember the take off or landing of our flight!

When we got to London we knew we were going to need some food and coffee to keep us going. This was probably one of my favorite parts of the trip. We got these AMAZING breakfast crepes from a little restaurant and then we got starbucks coffee! In London there was a starbucks on every corner, literally! We sat next to a huge window in starbucks that looked out into the center of a busy plaza. It was sooooo perfect. London has all of their Christmas decorations up and there was Christmas music playing (in ENGLISH!) in starbucks! We just sat there and watched the people and the things that happen in London. It was so relaxing and made me fall in love with London!
We dropped our stuff off at our hostel and then we starting tour London. The first thing we saw was the Tower of London. It looked like a castle! Over the past 900 years it has served as a palace, prison, royal mint and living museum. Then we saw the famous bridge in London, called the Tower Bridge. This was an awesome bridge, huge and very pretty! Next was the London Bridge, which actually wasn’t all that cool looking. And no, it wasn’t falling down..haha. After all of that we walked the Queen’s walk all the way to Shakespeare’s Globe Theater. We were really interested in this so we paid for the tour and got to see the inside! It was gorgeous! The tour guide did say that the theater is not exactly like the actual theater because they did have very much information on how it actually looked. They think it was very similar though, except for some changes that they made on purpose! By the time we were done with all of this it was dark out. Right outside of the Globe Theater was the Millennium Bridge, which was all light up and looked pretty sweet! Our last goal for the night was to meet the boys for dinner. We met them at their hostel and then they took us to a cute little restaurant, which was very good!On Saturday we wanted to tour the new city because everything we did the day before was the old city of London. Our hostel told us about this free tour, so we decided to check it out. It turned out to be perfect! We got to tour everything we wanted to see, and we even got a guide to tell us what everything was and the history behind it! AND…we had the chance to take the tour in English or Spanish….and we took it in SPANISH!! You should be sooo proud! During the middle of the tour the guide came up to us and asked where we were from, because we were clearly the only ones in our group that weren’t from Latin America or Spain. We told him the USA, but we are studying in Spain. He asked if we could understand him and we said yes, perfectly! We were very excited, because he was the first person that didn’t previously know we were learning Spanish, so he spoke at normal speed, and we understood! YAY! The things we saw on the tour were the Wellington Arch, Buckingham Palace (and the changing of the guard!), the house that Prince Henry and Prince William live in, Trafalgar Square, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben! Then, on our own, Natalie and I went to the Kensington Garden and Palace, which is where Princess Diana lived before she died. We ended our night with some shopping. We went to Harrods, which is a huge department store that all the celebrities go to. Then we just headed back to our hostel and had a couple of drinks in the bar, which is part of our hostel. We called it an early night because we had to be up at 5:30 in the morning to catch our bus to the airport. This made for another night of little sleep, and therefore we can recall the take off or landing of our plan again! All in all, London was AMAZING. I would have to say it beats Paris! I just had a great time and everyone in London was soooooo nice! And the fact that they had Christmas stuff up and Christmas music, I felt more like I was at home! The English helped too!! GREAT trip!!
